World Cup Sleepers - Longshot Picks

***Click HERE for our Daily World Cup Picks***

#3 Ranked Sleeper Pick - South Korea (300-1 odds)

Before the odds for the 2010 World Cup were even released, I was taking a look at South Korea as a dark horse in the tournament. They have been an underrated team for some time now, and a couple of losses in recent friendlies shouldn't scare people away. Manchester United star Park Ji-Sung is an extraordinary distributor of the ball, and will provide great service for South Korea's rising star goal scorer, Park Chu-Young. In the World Cup, it's all about escaping the group stage and rolling the dice once sudden-elimination begins. South Korea's group is tough, but I would not be surprised at all if Argentina disappoints and South Korea advances out of the group with Nigeria.  At 300-1 odds, it's almost impossible to not make a small bet on South Korea to produce that huge payday.

#2 Ranked Sleeper Pick - Mexico (80-1 odds)

As I was browsing the World Cup odds, I had to do a double-take when I came to Mexico.  I understand that the odds makers tend to give all the respect to the top five or six nations (the Spains and Brazils of the world), but putting Mexico at 80-1 odds seems crazy to me. I bet you didn't realize this: Mexico is ranked 15th in the world.  They don't even have a particularly difficult group--France, South Africa and Uruguay.  I believe France is overrated, and while the host team always seems to ride the home crowd to a magical run, I don't believe South Africa has the talent to prevail.  At 80-1 odds, Mexico is my #2 ranked sleeper pick of the World Cup.

#1 Ranked Sleeper Pick - Germany (16-1 odds)

You're probably scoffing at me calling Germany a sleeper. They performed well in the World Cup qualifying rounds, and made it to the semi-finals in the Euro 2008. Their players are extremely fundamentally sound and very fit, and their systematic style of play has been a trademark for decades.  However, with star player Michael Ballack now out of the tournament, Germany's odds have risen to 16-1 and experts are now dismissing their chances.  Ballack's absence will be felt, there is no question about that, but the German style of play is very team-oriented and I believe players will step up their level of play and overcome the challenge.  At 16-1 odds, I can't resist throwing it down on Germany.

Conclusion

There you have it, my top sleeper picks to win the World Cup. Remember, it doesn't take a very big bet to win a big cash payday when betting on sleepers--and if you sign up at Sports Interaction you'll receive a 100% matching bonus on your first deposit.  Get in on the action and make the World Cup even more exciting than it already is.
