Horse Betting 101

Today I thought it would be a good opportunity to give everyone some tips and a quick lesson in the basics of betting on horse races. Betting on horse racing is tremendously exciting and is a great way to place some low risk, high reward wagers.

Traditional Horse Betting Techniques

If you've followed the sport of horse racing, or are even a casual sports fan, chances are pretty good that you've heard some of the following terminology. Nevertheless, let me explain the basic methods offered by the sport books. Win - You are betting on your horse to win the race. Only a win by your horse wins you money. Place - You are betting on your horse to finish second, however you still win money if he wins the race. Show - You are betting on your horse to finish third, however you still win money if he wins, or finishes second.

These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to betting on horses, however they are the most common and probably the "easiest" way to win some money. However, if you're looking for a serious payday at a relatively low risk, check out the next section.

Exotic Betting - Where the Big Money Lies
So you've laid down a few bucks on your favorite horse to win the race and you feel pretty good about your selection. But maybe you like another horse or two, or maybe you have an idea of which horses will finish in the top 2, 3 or 4 spots. If so, exotics are for you. You have the Exacta in which you pick the horses that will finish first and second; the Trifecta in which you pick the horses that will finished first, second and third; and the Superfecta in which you select the horses that will finish first, second, third and fouth. There are variations of these types, along with many other ways to place your bets on the Kentucky Derby this Saturday, but these are the most common and can offer some huge paydays if you win.

Have Some Fun

Betting on the Horse Racing for the first time will give you one of the most fun and exciting afternoons in recent memory. Spread a couple of dollars around on exotic bets and take your shot at a huge payday. Remember--you only have to bet a couple of bucks on these exotics to produce some seriously big paydays, so it won't cost you a lot of money to get in on the action. From time to time, we will be offering our race tips and special free picks for big races, so check back often and win some money with us.
