Thoughts and Analysis on UFC 115
The UFC comes to Vancouver, British Columbia this Saturday night and offers
a solid though unspectacular card featuring a throwback main event of Chuck
Liddell vs. Rich Franklin. I'll be placing my bets on Sports Interaction for
the fights--they accept all parlay combinations, making it easier to bet on
favorites by combining them together.
Chuck Liddell (+110) vs. Rich Franklin (-147)
How things have changed for Chuck Liddell. The Iceman has gotten knocked out
cold in his last two fights, and has lost four of his last five overall. His
back is against the wall tomorrow night, knowing that a loss will likely
mean the end of his career. Usually, this would setup a nice betting
situation (I love betting on guys who have everything on the line), but Rich
Franklin is a smart, tough opponent. Franklin has only ever really gotten
his ass kicked by one man (Anderson Silva), and I have a hard time picturing
him being knocked out this Saturday night.
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic (+120) vs. Pat Barry (-164)
I have to admit: I didn't know much about Pat Barry prior to watching the
UFC Countdown show this week. What I saw in the countdown show was pretty
impressive stuff, though I would be quick to point out that he has not faced
anywhere near the level of competition that Cro Cop has. Cro Cop is a living
legend, though he is definitely coming to the end of the line for his career
and has not performed very well at all in the UFC. This is a win-win matchup
for the UFC, as a Barry win propels him into the mainstream and a Cro Cop
win puts him back in the mix of heavyweight contenders.
My Picks:
David Loiseau (+162)
Carlos Condit (+110)
Parlay:
Tyson Griffin + Ben Rothwell (+125)
Chuck Liddell (+110)
